The 9 selected startups presented the work developed to the partner entities that attended the event at Fábrica de Santo Thyrso.
The Demo Day of the first edition of the pre-accelerator programme AMPLIFICA happened on April 24th. This programme is promoted by Área Metropolitana do Porto in partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and implemented by MAZE, to foster the social innovation ecosystem in the region.
The event took place in Fábrica de Santo Thyrso and was attended by several municipalities of Área Metropolitana do Porto, representatives of the Universidade do Porto and other partner entities, such as the cowork space Work on Wood.
In this event, the 9 selected startups presented the work developed, highlighting the relevance of their solutions to reach social and environmental results for citizens residing in Área Metropolitana do Porto.
This moment represented the end of 6 intensive acceleration weeks, where the startups underwent a custom training and mentoring process, in which they developed their business models, market entry strategies and improved their products and services.
During the 6 weeks, it was possible to conclude that individualized support, focused on the real needs of these entrepreneurs, is essential for the success of the solutions idealized. The involvement of key stakeholders throughout the process was also decisive.
Francisco Miranda, co-founder of the project “2030 Social Currency”, a game that tries to teach how to contribute to The Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations in schools and corporates, characterizes the experience as a participant of the program as “an opportunity to co-create the solution directly with one of its potential clients – the municipalities of Área Metropolitana do Porto ”.
